The 2016-17 Bath County Wildcats accomplished a feat no boys team in at least the last 20 years had attained.
Win 7 true road games in 1 season.
The Wildcats held off an incredible individual performance and foul trouble to beat Robertson County 75-74 in Mount Olivet last night. The win improved the Cats overall record to 11-12 on the season and 7-3 in true road games. The seven wins is the most since at least the 1997-98 season, which is the earliest season listed on the kHSAA website.
The Black Devils led 40-33 at the half but the Wildcats won the 3rd quarter 21-9 to take a 54-49 advantage.
The 4th quarter was tight all the way as Robertson’s Mason Burden scored 15 points. The Cats were 12-18 from the free throw line in the final frame which ended up being the difference in the contest.
Burden gave his team every chance to win, scoring 42 points, but it wasn’t enough as 3 Wildcats scored at least 18 points.
Jake Mitchell finished with a team high 19 points while fouling out with around 5 minutes left in the game. Ben Peyton and sophomore Spencer Pergrem both finished with 18.
Bath County will be back in action Thursday night as they travel to Morehead to play Rowan County.
