Boys Varsity Basketball · Bath County Goes Down Fighting as Rowan County Wins 61st District Championship


The Bath County Wildcats fought all night long but couldn’t overcome the Rowan County Vikings points from the free throw line as they fell 54-45 Thursday night.

The Vikings made 11 free throws, which were 6 more than the Wildcats shot, and was ultimately the difference in the final score. The Wildcats finished 2 for 5 from the charity stripe.

The Vikings jumped out to a 16-11 first quarter lead and doubled that up to a 32-22 lead going to the halftime locker room.

The Wildcats closed the gap in the third by 2 but couldn’t gain anymore ground in the 4th as the Vikings held on for the 9 point win. This was the 5th straight district championship for Rowan County.

The Wildcats were led in scoring by Chandler Otis with 19 points and 8 rebounds.

Rowan County was led by Mason Moore with 20 points and 13 rebounds.

The Wildcats and Vikings will now both move on to the 16th Region Tournament at Morehead State University. The draw will be held Saturday morning and the first round games will be played Monday and Tuesday night.

The 61st District All-Tournament team included 3 Wildcats: (L-R): Brooks Williams, Chandler Otis, and Ryan Leach. Others on the team were Cole Saunders (Fleming), Caleb Flannery (Fleming), Drake Jenkins (Menifee), Travis Trimble (Menifee), Chase Alderman (Rowan), Brady Madden (Rowan), Devin Davidson (Rowan), and the MVP was Mason Moore (Rowan).
