Girls Varsity Track · TRACKCATS Volunteer at SOKY

Several TRACKCATS and an Alumna Volunteered their June 1 Saturday working the Staging Area, for the Track Events, at the Special Olympics of Kentucky on the campus of Eastern Kentucky University.

This is the 4th year in a row that the Girls have Volunteered at the games

What is Special Olympics?

Special Olympics is an international program of year-round sports training and athletic competition for more than one million children and adults with intellectual disabilities.

Attending this year were TRACKCATS Kelsey Ostrom, Isabella Copher, Jaycie Bussell, Amelia Oldfield, and Alumna Hannah Bussell

The day proved to be no different than past year as the temps were hot with plenty of sun. The Girls started their day a 7:30am with the male Track Athletes running the morning session, then the female Track Athletes running after lunch

After the games have completed the Girls take a couple hours break and return to campus for the evening Athletes Dance. Once again they volunteer with setup and passing out souvenirs and memorable items to the Athletes.

The Girls then spend the evening socializing and dancing

The BCHS Track Program has participated in the SOKY Unified Track & Field Program for 2 years and has qualified our Unified Athlete and Partners for the KHSAA State Meet each year

BCHS is now a Special Olympics Unified Champion School
