Multiple Teams · Ladycats Receive Post-Season Honors

The Ladycats played their last game of 2017 last Monday night in the regional tournament but it has been another very successful season for the girls. Last Friday the Ladycats, for the second year in a row, fell one goal short of the title losing to Rowan County 3-2 in the 61st District Tournament final. The Ladycats then had to face East Carter, whose team boasts the leading scorer in the state, without their senior wing player, Kristin Riddle, who was out with an injury. The team got off to a slow start, trailing 5-0 at the half, but rallied to stay even with the Lady Raiders in the second half, losing 6-1. The Ladycats finished the season 12-7, scoring 88 goals, which is one goal shy of the school record.

Three Ladycat players have been the recipients of post-season honors thus far this year. Kristin Riddle, Cailyn Oldfield, and Sadara Copher were chosen as members of the 61st District All-Tournament Team. Sadara Copher was also chosen as a member of the 16th Region All-Tournament Team. Sadara and Cailyn have also been named as members of the Kentucky High School Girls Soccer Coaches Association All Region Teams for the 16th Region. Sadara was chosen for the 1st team and Cailyn was chosen for the 2nd team.  Congratulations to these girls and the rest of the team for their accomplishments this season.

Multiple Teams · Ladycats Advance in District Play

The Bath County Girls Soccer team was able to enact some sweet revenge on an earlier shoot-out loss to Fleming County by beating the Lady Panthers 3-2 in the first round of the 61st District Tournament.  The game, which was supposed to have been played Tuesday at Menifee County had to be moved to Wednesday at Rowan County due to poor field conditions at Menifee after our Wildcat team was victorious over Fleming County in a downpour on Tuesday.

The game started out well with a rebound shot from a corner kick by Kylen Messer, in her first game back after a three week knee injury recovery, but the Lady Panthers soon turned the tables scoring on a penalty kick and a high shot to the back of the net to lead 2-1 at the half. Coach Lunsford was again able to put the fire back in the Ladycats with a rousing halftime talk and the Ladycats responded by scoring early in the second half when Kristin Riddle scored with an assist from Sadara Copher to tie the game. The Ladycats took the lead on a shot from Sadara Copher and the defense was able to stand strong, sealing the win for the girls. Madelyne English survived terrible field conditions and a kick to the face to hold strong in the goal with 6 saves on the night. Kylie Jo Willis came in to sub in the goal while Madelyne was treated for her injury and got one save.

The Ladycats will play for the District Championship against Rowan County at Menifee County on Friday at 6:00.  The Wildcat team will play Thursday against Rowan County at Menifee County at 6:00. Come out and cheer our teams on to victory.District vs Fleming
